Millie Woolf Memorial Leadership Award for IPATA

Derek Huntington from Capital Pet Movers receives the Millie Award for giving his best in the pet transport industry.

The Millie Woolf Memorial Leadership Award was established to honor of Millie Woolf, one of the six founding members of IPATA, who was the driving force that made IPATA the international network of professionals that it is today. The recipient must be a person, company or association - not necessarily an IPATA member - who exemplifies “I Gave It My Best” by providing, supporting or developing opportunities which advance the professionalism of persons involved in the safe and humane transport to animals. The 2014 Millie Woolf Memorial Leadership Award was presented to Derek Huntington of Capital Pet Movers. He always "gives his best" and goes the extra mile to ensure the organization meets and exceeds members expectations. For example, he has been instrumental in developing the training modules that all new members must complete during their provisional year thereby ensuring that those new to the industry have the tools necessary to exude professionalism as they provide pet shipping services.

The Lifetime Achievement Award honors an individual whose lifetime body of work demonstrates dedication to the pet transportation industry and to IPATA. Rosemary Fillippelli from World Wide Pet Transport is the 2014 recipient. She joined IPATA just one year after the organization launched and has worked vigorously for the pet shipping industry ever since. With an unbeatable work ethic, empathy and customer commitment - she is a model pet shipper and an inspiration for all members.

The 2014 recipient is the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Live Animals and Perishables Board (LAPB). The board has instituted a training workbook plus online tests to simplify and enhance training and education throughout the industry. They work diligently within their membership and with advisors to constantly update and improve the Live Animals Regulations Manual, the guideline used by all airlines worldwide when transporting animals. In the last year training for airline staff has been implemented at passenger counters and training is now required for any airline accepting pets.
