IPATA recognizes that pet scams are increasingly widespread and strives to raise awareness within the membership and to the general public.

IPATA promotes purchasing or adopting an animal through legitimate sources with proper supporting documentation and that has been physically seen.

Many scammers use the IPATA logo and the images and logos of IPATA member websites in an effort to convince the public of their legitimacy.

IPATA urges those who have been contacted by a scammer to report the incident to the proper authorities. IPATA has no law enforcement capabilities to shut scammers down. The IPATA website has information and advice for reporting these incidences. www.ipata.org/pet-scams
